Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Bhagvati Imperial, Ulwe on Independence Day |
On August 15, 2024, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness talk on organ donation at Bhagvati Imperial, Ulwe, in celebration of Independence Day. A blood donation camp was also organized alongside the organ donation session. The session began around 9:30 a.m., following the flag hoisting ceremony conducted by Ms. Prarthana from MOHAN Foundation, who served as the chief guest. Ms. Prarthana introduced the MOHAN Foundation and conducted a brief ice-breaker to gauge the audience's familiarity with organ donation. Discovering that the audience consisted mainly of non-medicos with limited knowledge about the topic, she proceeded to explain the concepts of organ donation, including the necessity and timing of transplantation, various organs that can be donated, types of donors, types of death, and the viability of organs after retrieval. She also clarified the difference between brain death and cardiac death, elaborated on the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, and addressed myths and misconceptions related to organ donation. Additionally, she provided information on skin donation, eye donation, and body donation. The audience asked several questions, including:
