Awareness session on Organ Donation at RDO Nursing College, Lamdeng, Imphal-West, Manipur |
On August 29, 2024, Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation, was invited by the Sports Association for the Visually Impaired Manipur (SAVI) and Life Savers Manipur to deliver a talk on organ donation. The session was organized in connection with National Eye Donation Fortnight-2024, held from August 25 to September 8, 2024, at RDO Nursing College, Lamdeng, Imphal West, Manipur.
The objective of the event was to raise awareness about organ and whole-body donation, dispel myths and misconceptions, and encourage citizens to donate organs and tissues after death. The program also aimed to instill the value of organ donation in the lives of the participants.
The dignitaries present were Mr. Laishram Chandrakumar Khuman, Group of LYS, Kwakeithel; Lion Lakshmi Roy, MJF, Editor of Eastern Lion, Past President of Lions Club of Imphal Ningol Collective; Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation; and Dr. Sapam Jasowanta Singh, Chairman, HD Foundation, Manipur.
Ms. Monica served as the resource speaker for the program. She began the session by introducing the MOHAN Foundation, its objectives, and its vision. She elaborated on several key points: • The importance of organ donation in society • The process and timing of organ donation • Organs that can be donated during life and after death • The transplant waiting list in India • The difference between brain death and coma • Stories of deceased organ donation in Manipur • How to pledge for organ donation • Myths and facts about organ donation • Organ donation and whole-body donation
Mr. Laishram Chandrakumar Khuman, a liver transplant recipient since 2013, shared his testimonial. The session was attended by lecturers, administrative staff, and students of the college, as well as members from like-minded organizations such as Lions Club, Life Saver Manipur, and the blind community.
Nearly 200 participants attended the session.
