The speaker for the event was Dr. Naimish Mehta, renowned Liver Transplant Surgeon and Chairman, Centre for Digestive Sciences at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur and the session was moderated by Ms. Poonam Sharma from MOHAN Foundation. Ms. Poonam set the momentum of the session with sharing that liver is the only organ of human body that can regenerate and this is fascinating. She further spoke about the importance of liver and how the society has changed from hepato-centric to cardio-centric after 17th century. She also spoke about the mention of Liver in art, poetry and mythology. This was followed by a small presentation by Dr. Naimish. To enhance the understanding of the subject and audience engagement, the talk was divided into bite-sized sections, allowing for a deeper understanding of the subject matter. The complex topic of liver health was made simpler under the following headings:
By underscoring the liver’s essential contributions to the overall health, Dr. Mehta captivated the attention of the audience for a rich and rewarding experience. He spoke about how liver problems can be due to inheritance, life style, viral infections etc. Some can be prevented and some can be cured but if the liver failure reaches beyond repair, liver transplant is the available treatment. Finally, he spoke about how to keep the liver healthy. He concluded his talk by making an appeal to the audience to pledge their organs. Dr. Mehta nailed the session because of the simple terminology and he bridged the language barrier by using bilingual (English-Hindi) approach. Audience had the opportunity to interact with Dr. Mehta and ask their doubts/queries. Ms. Poonam concluded the session by thanking MOHAN Foundation and supporting partner SBI Foundation and the guest speaker. The webinar was live on Zoom and aired parallel on YouTube.
