Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) of Erode on collaboration with Abirami Kidney and Bharathidasan College of Arts and Science, to commemorate World Organ Donation an awareness event at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium, Bharathidasan College of Arts and Science. For this event over 300 Youth and Junior Red Cross members from various colleges of Erode district participated.

The Awareness event Mainly focussed on saving lives through CPR and through Organ Donation.

The session began with the Program Host Mr Ravi. M, Admin Secretary, IRCS Erode, Introducing the dignitaries and followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu. Dr TG Ramamoorthy, Chairman IRCS delivered a warm welcome address and thanked all gathering for supporting for a good cause. Mr Thoman V John, Secretary, IRCS gave the introductory speech, thanking the managements and partners for support, he strongly emphasised that no lives should be lost waiting for support. He requested to ensure atleast eye donation in done prior turning into dust.

Lamp Lighting was done, the dignitaries pinned up green ribbon   and the donor families were invited on stage and were honoured. And were asked to share their feelings.

The awareness event commenced with Dr Saravanan, Nephrologist, Abirami Kidney Care (AKC), Erode, who spoke about the importance of organ donation and shared the challenges faced by patients on the waiting list and how AKC was established to support them. He then shared about AKC history and statics and how they started as 1^st transplantation centre in erode and how they are now the new license for Liver Transplantation.

The second session was by Dr KM Abulhasan, City Hospitals, Erode. He elaborately explained about CPR and gave a demonstration, he stated hoe a small help on time will help in saving lives at crucial times. He then stated about the new initiative by the Tamilnadu Government to include CPR in all school extracurricular activities.

The final session was by Mr Ganesh C, Marketing Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation. He started by streaming a short video clip “Donor”by Director AL Vijay. He then explained about Brain death, Time factor, how to avail organs from the government, myths on organ donation and safeguarding from scams. The session concluded with the video of organ recipient Mr. Ahamed Hussain sharing his experience and Mr Ganesh explaining the effective usage of organ donation helpline 1800 103 7100.

Post the awareness session the stage was open and the donor and recipient shared their experience with the transplantation and answered the questions from the audience. The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr VR Murugan, Treasurer IRCS Erode followed by the National Anthem.
