Awareness Session on Organ Donation Conducted for the NCC Cadets of 14 Punjab BN NCC at NCC Academy RupNagar Punjab |
On 7th August 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Commandant, Col Sanjay Singh, 14 Punjab Battalion NCC, to conduct an awareness session for their N.C.C. Cadets and J.C.Os at NCC Academy RupNagar Punjab. Around 400 Cadets from various School & Colleges of Sangrur and 12 Officers participated in the program. Ms. Neha Sharma began the session by asking the participants about their understanding of organ donation. She then explained the concept of organ donation to the participants. She discussed with them organs that can be donated after natural death and brain death and asked the cadets about their perceptions of donation after death. She also discussed the MOHAN Foundation's role and how youth can serve as ambassadors for the cause of organ donation. Ms. Neha Sharma then explained the current status of organ donation in India. She also explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The following topics were explained in detail: • What is organ donation and its need in the Society. • Who can be an organ donor? • Explanation about live and deceased donor • Organs that can be donated during life and after death • Brain death • Eye donation and steps required to preserve cornea after death. • Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 • Role of MOHAN Foundation • What an individual can do to contribute for this noble cause • Myths and facts about organ donation • Difference between coma and brain death A short informative film on brain death was shown and the importance of family consent in the process of organ donation was also explained in detail. It was indeed an amazing session. It was an interactive session with the Cadets. All the Cadets, Officers, Commandant in the session expressed their support for the noble cause. In the end they showed great interest in doing more programs with MOHAN Foundation.
