Sensitization program on organ donation and transplantation, RIMS, Imphal |
On July 23 and 24, 2024, a two-day sensitization program on organ donation and transplantation was organized for nursing officers from various departments, including Trauma ICU, MICU, O.T., CTVS-ICU, and MITU at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). The program was organized by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation, and assisted by Ms. Chongtham Pritam, Medical Social Worker (organ transplant) at RIMS.
The program was conducted after receiving approval from the Medical Superintendent of RIMS. The Chief Nursing Officer at RIMS led and integrated the programme. The session aimed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of nursing officers regarding the importance, process, and critical role nurses play in this life-saving procedure. It also aimed to improve the nurses' skills in identifying potential organ donors and fostering a supportive environment for organ donation and transplantation within the healthcare setting. Additionally, it addressed the ethical and legal aspects of organ donation and transplantation.
The two-day sensitization program on organ donation and transplantation was highly successful in achieving its objectives. Participants gained valuable insights into the significance, processes, and ethical considerations of organ donation and transplantation. The interactive sessions were effective in enhancing the practical skills and knowledge of the nursing officers.
The participants exhibited a keen interest in the subject matter and actively engaged in raising queries. They asked questions such as, “How many awareness programs have been conducted in Manipur?”, “How do they manage costs?”, and inquired about any reliable insurance policies that support organ transplantation costs. The participants also shared success stories of people they know and discussed individuals undergoing dialysis who are facing financial difficulties in continuing with the transplantation process.
Close to 80 nursing officers gained knowledge about organ donation and transplantation.
