On June 11, 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mr. Vijay Kumar Panhade, Police in charge of Sanpada Police Station, Navi Mumbai, to conduct an organ donation awareness session. Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi, representing MOHAN Foundation, began by introducing the organization's missions and objectives. She engaged the police officials present by asking them about their perceptions of organ donation, eliciting a mix of positive and negative responses. During the session, Ms. Dwivedi explained various aspects of organ donation, including types of death (brain death and circulatory death), and the types of organs and tissues that can be donated under these circumstances. She clarified the concept of brain death and highlighted the distinction between brain death and coma. The session also addressed common myths and facts about organ donation, aiming to dispel misconceptions and increase understanding among the attendees. Information on organ allocation and distribution processes was shared, alongside the introduction of MOHAN Foundation's toll-free helpline number. Ms. Dwivedi further elaborated on the legal aspects and the role of police during medicolegal cases (MLC) involving brain death, emphasizing the importance of timely approval to preserve organs. The session concluded with active participation from 38 police staff members, with 20 pledging to become organ donors. Ms. Prarthana addressed queries promptly, ensuring clarity on the subject. Special thanks were extended to Mr. Vijay Kumar Panhade and Mr. Datta Jadhav, coordinator of the Police station, for their invitation and unwavering support in promoting organ donation. The interactive session at Sanpada Police Station fostered a profound dialogue among the police officials, encouraging them to reflect on their roles in promoting organ donation within their community. Personal stories shared during the session underscored the real-life impact of organ donation, inspiring deeper empathy and commitment among the attendees.
