MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session for the students of the College of Nursing, Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat.

On June 13, 2024, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Conference Hall, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, for the nursing students of the College of Nursing, Medical Directorate (CON, MD), Lamphelpat. The programme was conducted by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator at MOHAN Foundation.

 

This session was part of the awareness campaign that began on January 4, 2024, at JNIMS. Mrs. Surbala Devi, Principal of the College of Nursing, Medical Directorate, coordinated the session. Participants included first-year nursing students, interns, and their accompanying faculty members.

 

Ms. Udayini began the session by assessing the students' existing knowledge on organ donation and transplantation. She provided an overview of the objectives and vision of the MOHAN Foundation. She also elaborated on the following key points:

 

• Organ donation and its various types

• The law governing transplantation

• The distinction between circulatory death and brain death

• Organs that are eligible for donation after brain death

• The transplant programme operating in Manipur

 

Ms. Monica then took over the session, using a PowerPoint presentation to discuss the following points:

 

• The current status of the organ donation and transplant waiting list in India

• Stories of deceased donors in Manipur

• Common facts and myths about organ donation

• Details about corneal transplants and eye banks

• Family consent plays a crucial role in the organ donation process.

• Steps to pledge or register for organ donation

• Professional courses provided by MF

 

Subsequently, the team engaged in a brief discussion with the participants, addressing several queries. The team also distributed FAQs on organ donation to the participants to improve their comprehension of the topic.

 

Close to 80 participants attended the session, and 10 of them pledged to donate organs
