Mr. Shridhar Hanchinal, Hon. Director of MOHAN Foundation Karnataka, organized a webinar on COVID-19 challenges and impact on organ donation and transplantation on 28th August 2021 in the afternoon. Also, a transplant coordinator refresher training program, it was organised in association with TRANSTAN, ROTTO, SOTTO, Kolkata (East) and in collaboration with NATCO and IATC.
The program was moderated by Prof. Dr. Subbarao (Apollo Hospital, Chennai) and the Chairpersons for the event were Dr. R Kanthimathi and Dr. Arpitha Roychowdhury.

Introduction of MOHAN Foundation by Mr. Shridhar Hanchinal was followed by the welcome address and overview of 2021 (Tamil Nadu) by Dr. Kanthimathi. Dr. Edwin Fernando then continued with COVID-19 guidelines in deceased donor transplants and touched upon clinician’s perspective of kidney transplant during COVID-19. An overview of 2021 (East) was presented by Dr. Arpita Roychowdhury, followed by Dr. Elan Kumaran elaborated on liver transplant during the pandemic and Dr. Murali Krishna spoke on heart and lung transplants. Dr. Shalini Nalwad and Dr. Rahul Singh Sardar spoke on the interesting topic of complexities in organ airlifting.
Later the transplant coordinators shared their experiences about COVID-19 challenges and impact on organ donation transplantation. Mr. Sagayam Francis spoke about the donor side coordination and special care during COVID-19. Ms. Devi touched upon coordinator’s perspective on the challenges in recipient counselling and care during COVID-19. Mr. Sivakumar gave a brief description on how deceased donations worked during COVID-19 and Mr. Nethaji. J covered about pediatric donation during COVID-19.
Following a brief Q&A, the session ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Shridhar Hanchinal. The event was supported by Sanofi.
