An Angels of Change Volunteer Training program was conducted on 27th Sept 2017 for students of Social Work Department of Chevalier T Thomas Elizabeth (CTTE) College for Women, Perambur, Chennai. The one day session was for 13 students. These students had visited MOHAN Foundation in an exposure visit and also organised an Awareness Session on organ donation for students in their college.
The day started with Introduction to MOHAN Foundation and their expectations from the training. This was followed by Introduction to the training, the manual and the contents of the CD. The need and value of public awareness was explained by Ms Ann Alex followed by the challenges and tips to have a successful public awareness was explained by Mr. Siva Shankar. It was a very interactive session.
This was followed by dividing the students into three teams and asking them to view the CD and plan events in their campus. They practiced to register as a donor and also take an online public. They familiarised themselves with the contents of the CD. The group also practiced a Concept Talk using the presentation given in the CD.
Later they were shown short video clips by recipients and Mr. Ruban Victor spoke of a donor story and used it to explain the processes during donation. This was followed by writing exercise to thank the donor.
The volunteers were then given an exposure visit to the Skin bank and Blood bank at Right Hospital, where they understood the value of skin donation and blood donation and the processes after the donation. After returning to MOHAN Foundation once again they continued with their group activity and displayed their plans and practiced public speaking and got inputs from MOHAN Foundation staff.
At the end Mrs Lalitha Raghuram encouraged them to use their skills to promote the cause followed by a session of photographs specially for uploading on social media platforms and a feedback session. All the students were motivated to conduct awareness session in their campus and during their field visits.
