Organ Donation and Transplantation – Mumbai/Tamil Nadu:
ZTCC coordinates the transplantation process in Mumbai. They also have funds to help hospitals to do cross match testing and to buy HTK solutions. For organ donation they collect NOC (No Objection Certificate) from police prior to retrieval. In whole body donation the Govt. provides travel allowance to the family for a particular jurisdiction.
First skin bank was established in Mumbai; this year they have received 102 skin donations from cadavers. Like eye donation, the skin retrieval team goes to the residence of the donor and harvests the skin, which hardly take 45 mins without any disfigurement. Through this they have helped many burn victims especially children, adults and women. They have also developed a protocol for skin donation, retrieval and transplantation to be shared with other transplant centers to improvise the number of donation to give new lease of life and hope for burn victims and others.
Tamilnadu being a role model in the field of Organ Donation, we learn from each donation and keep learning from other states and countries.
This training program was a platform where each and every participant
LEARNED… SHARED… CHERISHED… the meaning of
LIFE… PASS IT ON!
