The saga of Manasa and Aaron, Talk on Organ Donation at Anumaa Ashram, Hyderabad

Updated on Wednesday, July 4, 2012
  • On 3rd July 2012, an Awareness talk on Organ donation was organized among the followers of Anumaa, (a pranic healer), on the special occasion of Guru Purnima where around 60 members gathered. The talk was given by Mr. Krishna Wadi (Father of Ms. Manasa Wadi, a Liver Recipient) supported by MOHAN Foundation representatives. He explained the importance of Organ donation by telling the story of his daughter, Manasa and son-in-law Mr Aaron. Aaron, a citizen of New Zealand, married Manasa, despite knowing about her illness and donated a part of his liver. As the law in India is very stringent, it did not allow Aaron, (a foreigner) to donate initially.  After going through all the Authorisation Committee meetings and formalities at the State level, he was finally permitted to donate. However, Manasa died two days after transplantation as she did not get an organ at the right time.  This made the audience aware about organ donation and left a strong message that many people die while they wait for an organ. After the talk, Donor cards and Brochures were distributed.
