Sujana lives on in seven people

  • Sujana Kothinti, a 35 year old SAP HR Consultant at IBM, Hyderabad is an extremely soft-spoken, affable and helpful human being.  Her friends say they have never seen her angry or ever found malice in her words or deed.  Her world revolved around her 8 year old son, Prateek.

On the morning of 26th   May, Sujana went to Jubilee Hills on her two wheeler to get her son’s iPad repaired.   As it was a very short distance, she did not bother to wear her helmet, without realising it was going to cost her life.  A three wheeler hit her from behind, upon which she fell on the road divider, leading to heavy loss of blood from head. The onlookers rushed her to Apollo Hospital immediately, following which a surgery was performed on her head to save her life.  Although the doctors  tried very hard to bring her back to life, she was unfortunately declared “brain dead” on 28th afternoon.  At that point, a relative of hers, an ophthalmologist, told the family about the possibility of donating Sujana’s organs.  The social worker at Apollo and the Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation responded to all doubts that the family had about organ donation.  Finally, the entire family decided to donate Sujana’s kidneys, liver, heart valves and eyes.  On 29th morning, the liver transplant and one kidney transplant was performed at Apollo Hospitals, one kidney transplant at Global Hospitals, heart valves were retrieved by Innova Children’s Heart Hospital, and eyes by L.V. Prasad Eye Institute.

Sujana’s brother in law, Sri. Premnath Kamana says, “if Sujana was alive today, she would have done exactly this.  She wouldn’t have liked her organs go a waste.”  He says, “although Sujana is no more, I am glad we are part of a great movement of donating organs”.
