A group of 10 first year students pursuing their Bachelors in Social Work at Thiruthangal Nadar Arts College, accompanied by Mr. A John Britto, Assistant Professor, visited the MOHAN Foundation office in Chennai on 27th October 2021. The visit, a field exposure was part of the students’ course curriculum.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer of MOHAN Foundation welcomed the students and introduced the activities, mission and vision of the Foundation. She also briefly introduced organ donation and its importance to the group.
Ms. Ishwarya Thyagarajan made a presentation on the concepts of organ donation next. Brain death, types of donors, organs and tissues that can be donated, transplant law, role of a social worker, myths related to organ donation, donation statistics, and a recipient story were the highlights of her presentation. A trivia quiz on movies dealing with the theme of organ donation and an activity in the Connexion game format themed on organ donation were greatly enjoyed by the students.
Marketing Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr. Ganesh C spoke about the various professional certificate courses offered by the Foundation, their eligibility criteria and career prospects.
The group was highly interactive and asked numerous questions including the age and size matching criteria in transplantation, skin donation and organ allocation. The students were asked to summarize their learnings from the sessions in the concluding segment.
Ms. Indhuja, a student thanked the Foundation and speakers on behalf of her institution and a few other students shared their feedback. The visit ended with a group photo before the students departed.
