On October 24, 2024, National Council of Churches in India, who is studying Christianity, visited the MOHAN Foundation’s Nagpur office to learn about organ and tissue donation and the process of pledging to donate. The students, representing diverse states such as Telangana, Pondicherry, Odisha, Nagaland, and Manipur, were eager to understand the significance of organ donation, particularly as awareness has been growing in regions like Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. During the session, all 10 students attended all of whom made the pledge to donate their organs, demonstrating their commitment to this life-saving cause.
The session included insightful presentations from two key speakers. Veena provided a comprehensive explanation of the Transplantation of Human Organs (THO) Act, educating the students on the legal framework surrounding organ donation in India. Ms. Bhagyashree, a counselor with the MOHAN Foundation, shared her expertise on guiding families through the organ donation process and the emotional and ethical aspects of decision-making. She also introduced the various e-learning courses offered by the MOHAN Foundation to further educate the public about organ donation. To supplement their learning, the students were given a copy of Current ITN (Volume 23, Issue 3), which provided additional resources and information on the topic. The session aimed to deepen the students’ understanding of organ donation and inspire them to spread awareness in their respective communities about the life-saving potential of organ donation.
