Sensitization programme on organ donation for staff of Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai

  • Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai in collaboration with Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) and MOHAN Foundation conducted a sensitization programme for its staff from 14th December 2016 to 24th December 2016. This initiative aims at educating the paramedical and non-medical staff of the hospital about the various aspects of organ donation and transplantation programme.

    The campaign was formally inaugurated by Dr. M.R. Vairamuthu Raju, Dean, Madurai Medical College and Government Rajaji Hospital on 14th December 2016. Dr. Ganeshprabu, Director, Department of Anesthesiology cum Nodal Officer, Deceased Donation Programme, GRH was also present during the inaugural function and felicitated the Nursing Matrons for their support towards this initiative. MOHAN Foundation's Transplant Coordinator Mr. S. Venkatesh deputed at Government Rajaji Hospital, addressed the participants on the following - concepts of organ donation and transplantation, brain death, need of deceased organ donation, myths and misconceptions and the legal aspects of organ donation and transplantation.

    From 14th to 17th December, sessions were conducted for the multipurpose employees (daily wage workers);

    from 19th to 22nd December 2016 the nurses and nursing students were addressed;

    the same programme was conducted for the administrative staff of the hospital from 22nd to 24th December 2016.

    About 770 staff members benefited from this initiative.
