Sensitization on Organ Donation for Traffic Police, Chennai

    A mass awareness campaign on Organ Donation was initiated by six organizations namely MOHAN Foundation, HCL, Apollo Hospital, Chennai Police, Cadaver Transplant Program, Tamil Nadu, and Indian Medical Association in the month of February 2012.

     

    As part of the campaign, MOHAN Foundation team went to Armed Reserved Forces camp at Egmore, where 400 traffic police were gathered under one roof to get to know about the Power of Giving Life.

     

    Mr. Sanjay Arora, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Chennai and the Deputy Commissioner, along with other partners were present there for the session. The heads of the six partnering organizations shared their thoughts and importance of this campaign.

     

    Ms. Veena, the Transplant Coordinator from MOHAN Foundation screened a short film & made a presentation on Organ Donation. She emphasized the role of the Police in the Organ Donation process and explained what an individual can do to support the noble cause. The importance of the Donor Card was also explained.

     

    After the presentation the police interacted with Dr. Amalorpavanathan, Convenor, Cadaver Transplant Program. The following questions were raised by the police personnel:

    1. Is there any age limit for Organ Donation?
    2. What are the contraindications for Organ Donation?
    3. Can a person who committed suicide become an Organ Donor?
    4.  Can a person who died of snake bite become a potential donor?

     

    At the end, the police personnel expressed their power of support to Give Life by pledging for a Donor Card.
