On 13th August 2020, on the occasion World Organ Donation Day MOHAN Foundation along with Rotary Club Navi Mumbai was invited by Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing. This program was arranged and coordinated by MOHAN foundation Life Member Mr Bhal Shekhar Chilana.
At around 2pm afternoon through Microsoft Teams Online Meet Mrs Jaya Jairam (Project Manager Mumbai MOHAN foundation) held an awareness session and introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She then introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation. She also explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home which caught attention of the crowd. She then discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved through Organ Donation.
She elaborated that there is no such age limit for donation as long as the organs and tissues are healthy they can be donated, even a new-born infant can donate. She then explained about the Indian laws pertaining to Organ Donation, the waiting list of Organ failure patients and difference between the opt-in and opt-out system. She also explained about the religious barrier and myths related to organ donation.
Mrs Jaya Jairam invited students and Faculty members’ to join in our volunteering program. Details of Organ Donation Helpline No. 1800 103 7100 was also shared. About 110 participants attended the awareness session. Few pledges were filled online as Donor Card registering link was shared.
