Sensitization Programme for Nurses at RGGGH

  • A sensitization programme for nurses was organized at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), Chennai on 15th and 16th July, 2013. The nurses from the following wards participated in the event: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Post Operative Care Unit (POCU) Male/Female ward, Intensive Medical Care Unit (IMCU), Neurology, Nephrology, Vascular Surgical Ward, Intensive Surgical Care Unit (ISCU) and Intensive Trauma Care Unit (ITCU). There were a total of 36 participants.

     

    The session was conducted by Ananth R, Transplant coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai. The session covered the following topics: What is Organ Donation, Who can be a donor, What is Brain Death, The Difference between Brain Death and Coma, Cornea Donation and What is a Donor Card.

     

    There was active involvement from all the participants and many questions were raised. Some of them being: The process of organ donation, what are the organs and tissues that can be donated and the time taken for organ retrieval and transplantation.

     

    At the end of the session every participant was given a donor card which they duly signed and promised to carry with them at all times.
