Omayal Achi College of Nursing was established in 1976. MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Organ Donation on October 11, 2022. Around 120 students of 2nd and 3rd year BSC and MSc nursing students gathered in the Seminar hall to attend the seminar. Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde were the resource persons for the sessions.
The session began with a Prayer and Welcome address by a staff. Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H (Helpline counselor) began the session with a motivational video. She then gave a talk on the Concept of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what and when donation can happen, Brain Death, skin and eye donation, voluntary body donation. and also the usage of organ donation helpline 1800 103 7100.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, played a video explaining brain stem death. Later she conducted a role play based activity: Hospital based scenario of deceased organ donation. The students very interested to be part of the role play.
The next session was a thanksgiving video by a recipient. Dr. Hemal then used cases to illustrate actual situations during grief counselling and transplant coordination. The seminar ended with a few slides on the Training courses
The students were eagerly waited to pledge and 34 students collected their donor cards. Students started to discuss some topics with Ms. Arshiya and she has answered to all their questions:
1. If person has natural death what is the procedure for voluntary donation.
2. If the person has attempted suicide did he can donate or not
3. Asked about the Gift of Life course.
4. Skin donation procedure and to whom is the skin given.
5. How to register if the person is in need of kidney.
The Vice Principal felicitated the resources persons with small gift and MOHAN foundation Dr. Hemal gave the Stories of Transplant book to Vice Principal. The session was ended with Vote of thanks and National Anthem.
