MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Organ Donation and protocols on November, 14 2023. Around 143 students and 8 staff of Faculty of Management Sciences of The Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), Porur, Chennai.
The seminar was held at the Harvard Auditorium in the campus. Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Mr. Ganesh C of MOHAN Foundation were the resource persons for the sessions.
Dr. Padmaprabha (Faculty of Management Sciences) welcomed the resource persons and Dr. Selvam Jesiah (Principal) felicitated the resource persons.
The session was started by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde with an introduction of MOHAN Foundation and handover the mike to Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H began the session on the Concept of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what, when and how donation can happen. She explained brain death, skin and eye donation, voluntary body donation. At the end of the session a video explaining brain stem death was played.
In order to establish the complex nature of deceased donation, an activity-based learning was conducted by Dr Hemal Kanvinde. Titled 10 Step Protocol for a Successful Deceased Organ Donation, the activity involved many students and explained the roles of different stakeholders.
The next session was on Transplantation of Human Organs Act, Amendments and Rules. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde elaborated on the main features of the Act. A quiz based on the presentation was conducted with the active participation of the students thereby reinforcing the learning.
Dr. Hemal then used cases to illustrate actual situations during grief counselling and transplant coordination. Explanation of the different courses that can be availed by the students were given. The seminar ended with a testimonial video of a heart recipient.
The session ended with a Vote of Thanks. Students actively signed a support banner and pledged to donate their organs, 07 students collected their donor cards. MOHAN Foundation wholeheartedly thanks, Faculty and Management of The Department of Management Sciences, SRIHER for arranging this seminar.
