Seminar on Deceased organ Donation at Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing

  • Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing, Kanchipuram was established  in 2008 to develop skilled professionals in nursing and health care. MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Deceased Organ Donation on April 26, 2025. Around 110 students of Final year BSC Nursing gathered in the Lecture Hall to attend the seminar.  Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Mr. Ganesh C  of MOHAN Foundation were the resource persons for the sessions.

     

    Dr. Hemal Kanvinde  started with an interactive session  as an introduction to  the students about organ and tissue donation and the history of MOHAN Foundation.

     

    Mr. Ganesh began the session with a talk on the Concept of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what, when and how donation can happen. He explained Brain Death, skin and eye donation, voluntary body donation. He touched upon myths in the public, government schemes  to get organs and financial aid for transplants. He asked the students to keep the helpline number in their phones, so that they can help in case of need. 

     

    In order to establish the complex nature of deceased donation, activity based  learning was conducted by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde. Titled 10 Step protocol  for a Successful Deceased Organ Donation, wherein many students participated and understood all the stakeholders  and their roles in a deceased donation. 

     

    A quiz was conducted based on Tamil Movies  which had  Organ donation in the storyline,  Mr Ganesh conducted the quiz. Students participated actively and answered the questions thereby reinforcing the learning. The seminar ended with Mr. Ganesh explained about the training courses and also process of registration and value of a transplant coordinator.

     

    Some students pledged to donate their organs, 75 students collected their donor cards. The session ended with Vote of Thanks by  a student.  Dr. Hemal presented kidney transplantation (before and aftercare book) and “Stories of Transplant“ book to  Dr.  Victor Devasirvadam S, Principal of the college.  MOHAN Foundation whole heartedly thanks,  Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing , Dr.  Victor Devasirvadam S (Principal)   and  Mr. Dinesh Kumar (Professor) for arranging this seminar.
