Seminar on Deceased Organ Donation for Nurses at KLE Hospital, Belgavi

  • The KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital organised a seminar on deceased organ donation for nurses on 30th July 2019. Dr. Nerli (Transplant Head and Medical Director) and Dr. M.V .Jali (Medical Director and Chief Executive - KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital  invited MOHAN Foundation to deliver a talk on deceased organ donation. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer was deputed for the programme. Around 55 nurses, including ICU nurses, 10-15 transplant co-ordinators and PROs of various hospitals attended the seminar that took place at Anubhav Mantap in KLE Hospital Belgavi.

    The seminar began with a welcome address and introduction of Dr. Hemal Kanvinde by Dr. Nerli.
    Dr. Kanvinde spoke on organ donation and transplantation concepts, types of donation, myths and other relevant facts. A video explaining brain death, clinical testing and apnoea Tests was played for the audience.

    Dr. Kanvinde proceeded to explain the protocol followed in hospitals during deceased organ donation. Mr. Pramod, Transplant Coordinator explained how first transplant took place in the hospital and also spoke about grief counselling in deceased organ donation and presented case studies. Dr. Kanvinde briefly spoke about various training programmes for transplant coordinator and career opportunities.

    The audience shared their feedback about the session and around 10 of them signed up as organ donors. As the programme came to a close, MOHAN Foundation thanked KLE Hospital for their invitation and the opportunity to interact with the nurses and other staff.
