  • 3rd October, was like any other normal day for 18 year old Mahesh, who was going to work in their fields in Narsappaguda, Kothur Mandal, Mahaboobnagar district, along with his father, Sri. Mallesh. Suddenly, a tractor that came from behind, hit Mahesh, and he fell down and started bleeding from nose and ears. Immediately their sarpanch, Sri. Sudarshan Goud, took the boy to a government hospital in Shadnagar. As there were severe head injuries, the doctors there advised them to take him to Osmania Hospital in Hyderabad.

Seeing the boy’s plight, Sudarshan Goud took Mahesh in his own vehicle to Kamineni Hospital and admitted him there. On admission, the doctors mentioned that his brain is badly damage, and that his chances of recovery are grim but they will try and do their best.

As Mahesh did not recover at all, doctors declared him “brain dead” on the morning of 6th October. When approached by MOHAN Foundation’s CEO, Mr. Raghuram, to donate Mahesh’s organs, the family had apprehensions but all of that were put to rest by their Sarpanch, Sri. Sudarshan Goud. He convinced the family that it is a noble deed, and that after all, the body was going to be subjected to ashes. After extensive discussions, the family finally consented to donate Mahesh’s organs. His kidneys, liver, heart valves and eyes were retrieved and used by different hospitals in the city.

MOHAN Foundation (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) has had 99 organ donations so far, translating to 180 kidneys, 68 livers, 44 heart valves, 8 hearts, 1 pancreas and 256 eyes retrieved, thereby saving over 550 patients. This is the 20th organ donation in 2010 in Andhra Pradesh.
