To mark ‘College Graduation Day’, the SRM – Dental College, Ramapuram Chennai, organized an awareness programme on organ donation in association with MOHAN Foundation on 30th April 2016. The event was held at Seminar Hall SRM – Dental College, Chennai.
The sensitization session was attended by about 100 students and staff. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer, Ms. Gieetha Transplant Coordinator and Ms. Susmitha Menon intern represented MOHAN Foundation.
The programme started with lighting lamp by the dignitaries- Campus Director Dr. T. Sridhar IAS, , Dean Dr.Ravi MDS, Medical Superintendent Dr.Jayaraman MCh. The Dean welcome the staff of MOHAN Foundation and the students, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde addressed the gathering on ‘Concepts of Organ Donation and Transplantation’. Participants’ queries regarding the brain death concept, the procedures involved in deceased organ donation, the legal aspects of live and cadaveric donation were answered during the session.
The event also saw the experience sharing by Mr. S. P. Raj from a donor family which was very touching. Later the audience enjoyed a Quiz on organ donation.
The registration stall was manned by Ms Susmitha. A total of 50 students pledged their organs and promised to carry their signed donor cards. The students also expressed their interest in volunteering to spread awareness about organ donation.
