On September 01, 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness talk for the members of the Red Ribbon Club at Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women. The programme began at 11:00 am, with 189 students attending in Shift I and 60 students in Shift II. It was part of the club’s inauguration.
Akshaya B, a student gave the welcome speech and introduced Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer, Ms. Arshiya Fathima H, Helpline counselor, and Dr. Shanthi Lakshmi, Dean of students. They lit the lamp and pinned badges to the RRC President, Vice President, and Secretary. The RRC students presented their previous year's activities and the motto of their club through a PowerPoint presentation.
Session1: This began with a quiz based on movies depicting organ donation. Ms Arshiya elaborated on the Concepts of Organ Donation and Transplantation, including who, what, and when donation can occur, Brain Death, skin and eye donation, and voluntary body donation. Her session needed a video of the recipient testimonial.
Session 2. For students of Shift 2 the session began with the movie quiz. Followed by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde’s talk on Organ Donation and its needs, in which the concept of brain death and reasons were explained clearly to the gathering. In between the presentation she had an interaction with students and the Myths of Organ Donation was explained properly to make the students understand that organ donation is not bad and in fact is a noble gesture. The discussion was on the need of organs, allocation criteria, and the validity of the donor card, whether a will was essential, and the importance of convincing a family about the pledge. At the end the recipient's video testimony was played.
At the end of the sessions 32 many students picked a donor card. MOHAN Foundation extends its warm gratitude to Principal Dr. R. Manimekalai, Dean of Students Dr. Shanthi Lakshmi for a wonderful opportunity and Dr. Sabana and Ms. Haritha (RRC Coordinators) for all the support.
