Radio Program Initiative on the Occasion of Organ Donation Day

    On August 3, 2024, a special radio program was aired on 90.8 FM - Aapki Apni Awaaz, Nagpur’s first community radio station, to celebrate Organ Donation Day. This initiative was a collaborative effort between MOHAN Foundation and Tirpude College of Social Work (TCSW), aimed at raising awareness and educating the public about the crucial importance of organ donation.

    The program featured insightful interviews conducted by Ms. Prachi Shirsat, representing both TCSW and MOHAN Foundation. The interviews included several distinguished medical professionals who shared their expertise and experiences related to organ donation and transplantation. Dr. Raj Gajbhiye, the Honorable Dean of Government Medical College (GMC), Nagpur, discussed the significance of organ donation in saving lives and the essential role of medical institutions in facilitating the donation process. He emphasized the need for a supportive environment for donors and recipients within the medical community.

    Dr. Avinash Gawande, the Honorable Medical Superintendent of GMC, Nagpur, spoke about the necessity for widespread public awareness about organ donation. He addressed the challenges faced in the field and the ongoing efforts by medical institutions to streamline the donation and transplantation process. Additionally, Dr. Dhananjay Selukar, Renal Transplant Surgeon at Superspeciality Hospital, Nagpur, shared his experiences and discussed the technical aspects and medical protocols involved in organ transplantation. He highlighted the critical role of timely organ donation in achieving successful transplant outcomes.

    The success of this radio program was significantly contributed to by several key individuals. Mrs. Veena Wathore, Project Manager at MOHAN Foundation Nagpur Center, played a pivotal role in organizing the initiative. Her commitment and coordination with various stakeholders were crucial for the program’s success. Ms. Bhagyashree’s contributions ensured the smooth operation of the program, enhancing its reach and impact. Dr. Swati Dharmadhikari, Officiating Principal of Tirpude College of Social Work, provided invaluable support and guidance, ensuring effective planning and execution. Ms. Prachi Shirsat, a faculty member at TCSW, conducted the interviews and played a vital role in coordinating the program, using her engaging style to effectively convey the importance of organ donation.

    Airing on Nagpur’s first community radio station, 90.8 FM, the program successfully reached a wide audience across the region. By featuring respected medical professionals and their insights, the program educated listeners on the critical need for organ donors and the life-saving impact of organ transplantation.
