On 15th August, 2013 to mark the 66th Independence Day Celebration; SARADHI, an organization that works for the promotion of Arts and Culture invited Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS) to deliver a talk on organ donation. The event was held at Paramal Junction, Paramal, Kerala.
The programme started with a welcome address by Mr. Suneesh Chandran, Secretary, SARADHI. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Chittayam Gopakumar, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Adoor. He spoke about how important it is to pledge ones organs and he also showed his donor card as evidence that he has already pledged for organ donation.
Mr. Aneesh P V, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Trivandrum made a detailed presentation to increase the awareness of the audience about organ donation. In his presentation he covered the following topics: what is organ donation; types of organ donation; the difference between brain death, natural death and coma; the legal formalities involved in deceased organ donation; religious myths about organ donation; about Mrithasanjeevani and KNOS and about the importance of pledging by signing a donor card.
The audience actively participated in the event and few of the queries that were raised were: how to register for kidney transplantation and the role of Mrithasanjeevani in allocating organs.
Around 50 people participated in the event and every single one of them signed the donor card. At the end; the vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Abhilsh P G, Treasurer, SARADHI organization.
