  The one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Transplant Coordination and Grief Counselling (PGDTC) batch of 2024 successfully completed their course in December 2024.  This year long course provided the participants with the knowledge and skills required to negotiate the complexity of transplant coordination and grief counselling.

   

  Course Structure and Delivery: With bi-monthly contact sessions, the online program supported candidates in self-paced learning. These online webinars concentrated on several important subjects, including:

   

  • Basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation
  • Transplantation of Human Organs Act: Overview, key clauses and salient provisions
  • Brainstem death: Concept, identification and certification process
  • Organ and tissue donation and transplant:
    • Skin donation, banking and transplantation
    • Kidney diseases and transplant
    • Heart diseases and transplant
    • Liver diseases and transplantation
    • Reversing immunosuppression and related rejection problem
    • Corneal donations and transplant
    • Role of the Transplant Coordinator in Deceased and Living Donor Transplantation
      • Coordinating deceased organ donations
      • Managing heart transplants, transplant logistics, and air ambulances
      • Recipient coordination in a heart-lung transplant
      • Recipient coordination in living donor transplant program
      • Documentation and approval in a living donation transplant
      • Case discussion – falsification of documents in a living donor transplant program
  • Counselling Process:
    • Counselling - theories, phases, and application
    • Psychological elements of loss and the need of counselling for bereaved households
    • Approaching grieving families for organ donation: strategies for gently approaching families about the possibility of organ donation while keeping awareness of their emotional condition.
  • Soft skills, Communication, Team Work

   

  Experts across the country were on the faculty board. The webinars comprised several activities including quizzes, case study discussions, and interactive sessions to guarantee active participation and engagement. These exercises gave participants the chance to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations, thus, promoting a better awareness and skill development.

   

  The course structure included online assignment submissions. The final examination was conducted on 15^th December, 2024. Successful candidates (who had scored 60% marks) were awarded their course completion certificates.

  We went through a learning journey through the yearlong with the restless support of core MOHAN FOUNDATION TEAM MEMBERS and felt a huge change in our sensitivity towards this particular area and related periphery. Initially, we were just keen to acquired knowledge on this tangent but as we moved steadily towards the year end, I pretend myself working as an important member of the transplant team extend as possible support to families connected with this life changing process making us much more sensitive. I now, thanks to all lectures, all team members of MOHAN FOUNDATION and special thanks to Sujatha mam, Poonam mam and Mr. Charan, they all were there for helping us day in and day out, anytime we were in a problem, they supported us truly.
