The MOHAN Foundation held an organ donation awareness event for the police staff of Kolathur Fire Station on January 28, 2024. The session was organized and promoted by Station Officer Mr. Ramesh.
The resource persons were Ms. Evanglin Gifta, MMM, intern, and Ms. Arshiya Fathima, MOHAN Foundation Helpline counselor. Information pamphlets were distributed by Ms. Evanglin. Ms. Arshiya gave an overview of the importance of organ donation and how it might save the lives of transplant recipients at the start of the session. The legal and medical aspects of organ donation, the many forms of organ donation, the procedure for organ donation, and body donation were all covered.
The seminar also provided information on Hand Transplant and the 24/7 toll-free helpline, which provides assistance and answers to any questions about organ donation and transplantation. The firefighters were told that if they had any questions, they may call this helpline.
Some queries were:
1. What is the process if someone from another state has to donate?
2. Why is skin donated?
3. Does India perform leg transplants?
The session was interactive. The group as a whole became inspired and pledged to support organ donation, and they would love to express their desire to their loved ones and honour the body after death. There were roughly ten fire station participants in the session. A poster about the procedure regarding donation was presented to the fire station.
For inviting us and supporting the organ donation cause, we would like to thank Mr. Loganathan, the district officer of the Fire and Rescue Department, Mr. Ramesh, the station officer, and his team from the Kolathur fire station.
