Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) from Sahayamatha Church invited Mritasanjeevani, Kerala Network for Organ sharing, Trivandrum Medical College, to deliver an awareness talk on Organ Donation on 7th July 2013. The program started with prayer song, sung by KCYM members following that Ms Nancy, President, KCYM welcomed the gathering. The program was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Stephen Mukkattil (Parish Priest). He spoke on the importance of organ donation.
Around 100 congregation participated in the programme. Dr. Noble Gracious, Nodal Officer, Deceased donor organ transplantation(DDOT), Government of Kerala started the first session with a talk on Myths and Facts about organ donation and transplantation. He mentioned that everyone has to be aware of procedures involved in organ and tissue donation. This was followed by a presentation by Mr. P. V. Aneesh, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation on Concepts of Organ Donation which involved Brain Death and Coma, Organs can be donated, Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994, Functions of Brain Stem, Importance of Donor card. It was an interactive session where people raised few queries on Organ Allocation and which organs can be donated.
After the session, Rev. Fr. Stephen Mukkattil was the first to sign the donor card, followed by Ms. Nancy, KCYM Coordinator. Donor card and information brochures were distributed to the audience. KCYM expressed their willingness to join Mritasanjeevani in future activities. The programme ended with Vote of Thanks rendered by Ms. D. U. Anju.
