Mr. Gabriel Pereira gave a presentation on organ donation at Mae de Deus High School in Corjuem, Aldona, Goa on June 21, 2023.
Mr. Gabriel thanked Mrs. Sandra Cardozo, the school's headmistress, along with the teachers and students, for allowing MOHAN Foundation to conduct this awareness talk for students in eighth through tenth grade. Around 85 students were present.
Mr. Gabriel introduced MOHAN Foundation to the group, noting that the organisation had turned 25 last year. The mission of the MOHAN Foundation was to disseminate the word throughout Goa and India about organ donation, why it is necessary, how the donation process works, which organs and tissues can be donated, etc.
He also described the two categories of organ donations: living and deceased, as well as the organs that can be donated from the living and after brain stem death. Gabriel asked everyone if they knew which institutions in Goa are authorised for organ retrieval and transplantation. He provided the names of the hospitals where organs can be retrieved and transplanted in response to his questions. He also mentioned the two hospitals in Goa that are authorised to perform corneal transplants.
He requested that the students inform their parents and family members about organ donation and show them GIFE OF LIFE flyers as they have learned about the subject today.
Gabriel concluded the session by advising the students to ensure that their parents and family members wear helmets when riding motorcycles and seat belts when driving.
