On 4th March, 2022, a seminar talk on Organ Donation was held in Chevalier T. Thomas College for Women, Perambur, Chennai.
Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal, Chevalier T. Thomas college for Women gave permission to conduct awareness sessions to the students of the Social Work Department. She also suggested that the students should take up this work in the schools run by the trust. About twenty five students and faculty members from the Department of Social Work participated in the session.
A student welcomed the staff of MOHAN Foundation. Ms. Preetha Baskar, Project Executive Awareness and Helpline gave a talk on concepts, brain death, myths, statistics, and other relevant facts on organ donation. The need for donation and importance of pledging and informing family members was explained. Additional information on eye, skin and whole body donation was provided.
A video about brain death was screened. It was followed by a Quiz competition in which all students participated actively.
The next session was on counselling of patients. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde explained the main features of counselling with a story of an organ recipient. This was followed by a video of a heart recipient. More than ten students pledged and got donor cards.
Students asked about waiting lists, multiple organ failure, whether the poor can get organs, coma and brain death. All doubts were clarified. The session ended with a vote of thanks given by the student.
