On February 20, 2025, Youth Red Cross members of Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology organized an awareness session on Organ Donation. This was done with the support of MOHAN Foundation.
Dr Hemal Kanvinde and Mr Ganesh C were the resource persons from MOHAN Foundation. In addition Dr Vijay, Senior Manager Transplant, Saveetha Hospital was invited as a resource person. Mr Vijaysingh Pardesi of Mumbai accompanied the resource persons for observation.
Volunteers from Youth Red Cross welcomed the guests and the students. To get the students into the topic, a video of kidney recipient Ms Jaya Jairam was played. After this Dr Vijay, briefly spoke about the importance of organ donation and transplantation and shared one of his experiences with a heart donation and all the intricacies of coordination.
Mr Ganesh C, MOHAN Foundation then spoke on the concepts of organ donation and transplantation. He shed light on types of donations, brain death, time factor, how to avail organ through government, myths, avoiding scams, pledging as donor, government schemes and effective usage of organ donation helpline number 1800 103 7100.
Dr Hemal Kanvinde, MOHAN Foundation conducted a quiz based on Tamil movie related to organ donation and transplantation. This was followed by an activity based learning of the complexity in organ donation. 142 students and staff attended the session and picked up an information brochure. Around 50 students picked a donor card.
