On July 12, 2024, MOHAN Foundation set up an information desk at the Red Hills Bus Terminus to promote awareness on organ donation. The primary objective was to educate the public on the importance of organ donation and address common myths by providing accurate, factual information about the donation process.
Ms. Arshiya (Helpline counsellor), along with Ms. Maheswari and Swethapriya (interns from MOHAN Foundation), set up an information desk and distributed brochures to travellers at the bus terminus The interns also distributed brochures to the shops that were in the vicinity of the bus terminus. Many individuals began reading the brochures immediately, showing real interest in the information provided. Bus conductors and drivers who gathered around started raising questions to know more about organ donation and enthusiastically discussed it with other colleagues. The MTC officer accepted the Organ Donation and Transplanation helpline sticker to stick it on the buses. The response was a good sign, indicating the public's readiness to learn more about organ donation. Few of the public volunteered themselves and got the brochures to know what was being distributed and clarify their queries.
Queries asked:
1. Do we need to register in a hospital?
2. Does a hospital do organ donation truly or is it a spam
3. Can organs be donated after any death?
4. Does the family have to agree for donation?
5. What if my family doesn’t accept for organ donation?
6. Can the helpline be reached for any other medical cause?
More than 350 brochures were distributed to the people and 12 of them came forward to pledge their willingness, 8 people took donor card. Around 30 people approached the information desk to know more about the registration process and truthful information.
