Organ Donation information desk at Poonamallee Bus Terminus

Updated on Wednesday, July 10, 2024
  • On 9 July 2024, MOHAN Foundation organized an information desk on organ donation at Poonamallee bus terminus. The main goal was to raise public awareness about the significance of organ donation and to motivate people to register as donors and to dispel myths and provide clear, factual information about the donation process.

Ms. Arshiya Fathima (Helpline counsellor), along with Ms. Maheswari and Ms Swethapriya (interns from MOHAN Foundation), set up an information desk and distributed brochures to people at the bus terminus and nearby shops. Many individuals began reading the brochures immediately, showing real interest in the information provided. This initial response was a good sign, indicating the public's readiness to learn more about organ donation. The bus terminus Time Keeper enthusiastically helped to set the information desk and pinned green ribbon which made the bus drivers and conductors motivated to get the green ribbon pinned.

    Queries asked:

    1.      How to pledge for organ donation?

    2.      Does hospital do organ donation truly or it’s a spam?

    3.      Under which type of death is organ donation possible?

    4.      What if their family disagrees?

    5.      Is money involved for donating organ?

    6.      Can the helpline be reached for any other medical cause?

More than 450 brochures were distributed to the people and 10 of them came forward to pledge for organ donation and got their donor card. Around 50 people approached the information desk to know more about the registration process and clarify their doubts.

MOHAN Foundation thanks MTC and officials of the Poonamallee bus terminus for giving this opportunity.
