Organ Donation awareness talk for Police at Avadi Police Recruitment School (PRS), Chennai

  • On 8th June 2017 MOHAN Foundation was invited by Avadi PRS to give  an awareness talk on the deceased organ donation for the policemen attending a refresher course. The session was held at the Police Training College, Ashok Nagar at 2:30 pm for 42 police trainees. Ms Sunitha, Mr. Siva Shankar  and Ms. Geethu from MOHAN Foundation conducted the program. Sub Inspector Ms. Jyothi of  Avadi PRS introduced the MOHAN Foundation team to the audience.

    As a part of the program a pre survey was done to assess the knowledge of the police men on organ donation. The purpose of the survey was explained to them clearly

    The first session was taken by Mr. Siva Shankar. He explained the activities of MOHAN Foundation. Then he moved on to the major topics that included -reasons for organ failure, what is organ donation, who can donate and other concepts of organ donation. Certain queries were asked by the audience which included

    1.    If the person has consumed alcohol before death can he/ she donate organs?

    2.    What are the major causes for kidney failure?

    3.    Can the organs be preserved?

    4.    Can one eye be given while living? 

     

    The second session was taken by Ms Sunitha. She elaborately described about the procedures that happens during the brain death certification and the role of police in a successful organ donation program. All the legal aspects were explained clearly to them. The clarifications that happened after the session were

    1. Green corridor and its significance in organ donation and retrieval
    2. Role of TRANSTAN in allocation of organs
    3. Is post-mortem mandatory?

    The session was very useful and informative, and they also added that they are looking forward to more sessions in future. MOHAN Foundation thanked Ms Jyothi of Avadi PRS, for giving the opportunity to explain about organ donation to the police personnel.
