On August 13, 2015 2 awareness sessions were conducted by MOHAN Foundation at HSBC Electronic Data Processing India Pvt. Ltd, Gurgaon . As this year, August 13, 2015 has been celebrated as organ donation day in most parts of our country, HSBC team invited over our team to sensitize their employees regarding the concept of organ donation.
HSBC Electronic Data Processing India Pvt. Ltd. provides banking and financial services to HSBC's customers worldwide. It delivers services in the areas of retail banking and wealth management, commercial banking, banking and markets, and private banking aspects. The company was founded in 2000 and is based in Hyderabad, with other offices in Gurgaon, New Delhi, Bengaluru.
The session was made possible through the admirable efforts of Ms Savita Awasthy, Vice President, Data Management- Business Finance. Not only the employees from Gurgaon office were present, but a video conferencing of the session was done at Chennai and their other office in Delhi.
The session was taken by Ms Pallavi Kumar along with Ms Chaitanya Jonker. Pallavi started the session by asking the audience as to how many of them had pledged their eyes. Only about 3 people raised their hands. Further, she asked them about the concept of organ donation and brain death and if they knew what all organs can be donated and when.
Pallavi explained about the Transplantation Act, types of death and donations. She clarified the myths regarding the topic. A 5-minute video on brain death was shown when the concept of brain death was being addressed. Special mention about eye donation and how each of us could contribute towards the cause was also stressed upon.
The employees who attended these sessions showed an enthusiastic response and shared that they have gained meaningful knowledge regarding the subject.
Some feedback from the employees who attended the session:
"Thanks for arranging such an eye opening session. The session has broken many of my myths. At first instant, I thought, why should I go? But after attending the session I realized that "what I would have missed if I had not attended the session". The session was so encouraging that when I discussed with my wife and she was so impressed that we both have decided to donate our eyes. This session may not give the professional growth but it will definitely encourage making someone smile, see and live in this beautiful world even in your absence."
"The session was very informative especially about the different type of donors, which all organs can be donated at which stage , brain dead state etc. It was also inspiring and encouraging while statistics and the authentication process was shared , as at times we hold back ourselves from contributing towards a good cause due to lack of trust or visibility around the overall process" .
"The number of people who attended the sessions are a testimony to the interest in people to find out more about the topic."
"I personally found it very informative and encouraging, I also shared some insights with my flatmates and also ask them to further share it with their friends and families.
"I have often thought of donating my eyes when I leave this world, but i could never take any action for registering myself with some organization for this. However, now after this session i understand that rather than registering yourself with some organization what is more important is to share your thoughts with your family members and convince them so that they can do the needful or allow for this donation when i am not alive. Only registering or signing a document will not help."
Close to 250 people attended the talk, including those sitting in the audience and those attending the video conference. Around 80 donor cards were picked. More donor cards were collected by the organizers for the other offices.
