Organ Donation awareness at a senior citizen’s housing centre

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited to speak to senior citizens living at the Serene Pushkar by Columbia Pacific Communities in Sholinganallur, Chennai. The talk was held on Nov 8, 2022 in their community hall and attended by 30 older citizens. Ms. Arshiya Fathima  of MOHAN Foundation and  interns from the MMM College of Health Science, Ms Vedikha and Ms Preetha, set up the hall with standees and distributed brochures and green ribbons and conducted the event.

    Amudhavalli. P (Resident Manager), greeted the members of the MOHAN Foundation. A brief movie underlining the significance of organ donation was shown before the session started. The concept of organ donation and transplantation was explained by Ms. Arshiya Fathima. She covered brain death and the who, what, and when of donation. She  also discussed  the when and how of voluntary body donation,  She touched upon societal misconceptions surrounding organ donation. A video of a recipient was aired at the conclusion. The audience were very touched by the film. 

     

    During the Q&A session, there were several clarifications on: 

    How to register in online?

    Why living donor cannot donate his organs to third person?

    How to do voluntary body donation?

    Already we have registered for eye donation, now again we can pledge organs? 

    After death how will MOHAN Foundation come to know?

     

    Nine of them made a commitment to become organ donors after learning about the donor registration process, the organ allocation process. MOHAN  Foundation thanks Ms. Amudhuvalli and her team for arrangements.
