On 11th April 2012, an Organ Donation Symposium was organized at Punjab University, Chandigarh, sponsored by DGHS (Directorate General of Health Services) and WHO (World Health Organization). The target audiences were the postgraduate students and general public including the faculty members from different departments of the University. The event also had delegates from PGIMER (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research), Delhi Public School, and Chandigarh.
Dr. R.C. Sobti, Vice Chancellor, Punjab University kindly consented to be the Chief Guest. Dr. Y.K. Chawla, Director, PGIMER presided over the function and Dr. B.S. Aulakh, Prof. Nephrology and head Renal Transplant, DMC, Ludhiana was the guest of honor.
Mr. Sudhir Dewan gave the welcome address to the audience and introduced the chief guests to the audience.
Dr. Sobti spoke about human body and how it can be utilized after death through solid organ donations.
Dr. Chawla spoke about the Cadaver Donation Programme and PGI’s role in making efforts to increase Organ Donation and saving lives.
