State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) Haryana, in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation, launched the "Organ Donation Month" awareness campaign on 1 July 2023 at the Ch. Ranbir Singh OPD Complex, PGIMS in Rohtak.
The program commenced with a street play titled "The Importance of Ang Daan" performed by second-year B.Sc. nursing students at the College of Nursing, PGIMS, Rohtak. Dr. Shamsher Singh Lohchab, the chief guest, told the audience that such awareness programs should be organized to dispel societal misconceptions about organ donation.
Dr. Sunil Rohilla, the Executive Nodal Officer of SOTTO, stated that we should pledge organs when we’re alive to save someone's life. He stated that the SOTTO team and MOHAN Foundation are off to a great start in their efforts to raise public awareness about organ donation throughout the entire month of July in various districts of Haryana through awareness programs.
Mrs. Hemwati, Lecturer at the College of Nursing, stated that the drama performed by nursing college students sent a strong message to society that organ donation can bring new promise to someone's life. Donating organs brings happiness not only to ourselves, but also to others.
Ms. Renu Kumari, Project Leader of the MOHAN Foundation, expressed her sincere gratitude to all the distinguished dignitaries, students, and attendees whose presence and support contributed to the success of the event.
Ms. Ishwanti Malik, Nursing Superintendent & Faculty, College of Nursing also attended the event.
The event concluded with oath taking ceremony for organ donation by Dr. S. S. Lohchab, faculty members and students.
Close to 350 students and members of the public attended the program. And 50 of them pledged to donate their organs upon death.
