Organ Donation Awareness session at Indian Council of Child Welfare, Chennai

  • On December 24, 2024 MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Organ Donation for members of ICCW (Indian Council of Child and Welfare Chennai Branch). Around 15 members attended the session. In addition, two guests from Azim Premji Foundation, Mr Ananda and Ms sandhya were also present. 

    Dr. Hemal Kanvindae (Quality Assurance Officer) was the resource person for the session. Ms. Yamini assisted the session and set up an information desk, to begin with she distributed green ribbons and information brochures to all participants. Mrs.Vaijayanth B, Treasurer introduced Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and about the work of MOHAN Foundation.  

    Dr. Hemal kanvinde began the session by asking Questions about Organ Donation. The participants gave interesting answers. This was followed with a talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what, when and how donation can happen. Additional information on eye, skin and whole body donation was provided. She also explained about brain death and shared a recipient story through the ppt. She also gave information on how  general public can become Ambassadors for Organ Donation.  Two members shared their experiences of cornea donation from their family. 

    Dr. Hemal Kanvinde had a Q&A session based on the session.

    1. How can the eyes be donated to 4?

    2. What is Tissue donation?

    3. Can a diabetic patient donate organs?

    4. Can a CANCER patient donate organs?

    MOHAN Foundation thanked the organization for the opportunity to create awareness.
