Dr. Umesh Hallikeri, Consultant Pathologist at the Karnataka Cancer Therapy & Research Institute, Dharwad, invited MOHAN Foundation and Jeevasarthakathe to conduct an awareness session on organ donation. The event which was organised on the occasion of World Cancer Day in the RN Shetty College campus, Dharwad, on 3rd February 2021 and was attended by representatives of a few NGOs and government departments of Dharwad.
Audience were from Belgaum Diocesan Social Service Society (BDSSS), District Health and Family Welfare Department, Indian Red Cross Society, Dharwad and Padmashri Dr. R B Patil, Cancer Hospital, Navanagar, Hubli.
Dr. Sujata V Hasavimath District Surveillance Officer of Dharwad, inaugurated the programme. Dr. Girija M. Yabannavar, the Principal and HoD Dept. of Economics at Smt. K. S. Jigalur Arts and Dr. (Smt.) S. M. Sheshgiri Commerce College, Dharwad presided over the programme. Dr. Umesh Hallikeri spoke about the importance of organ donation. Father Peter Ashirwad of BDSSS released the organ donation flyers.
Mr. Manoj Naik from Jeevasarthakathe and Mrs. Sheetal Mundada, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation gave a talk on living and deceased donation, concepts of brain death and whole body donation. Around 70 individuals attended the awareness session.
