Organ Donation Awareness for Swimmers at Nagpur

  • On 12th September 2020, a stall was set up by MOHAN Foundation to spread awareness about organ donation near the Ambajhari Lake in Nagpur, where people swim regularly. This was an initiative of Mr. Ajay Dharme Convener of the Aam Aadmir party’s South East wing.

    MOHAN Foundation set up a stall to display information brochures and donor cards with standees and a banner bearing motivational slogans. Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator managed the stall.

    Information given to patients and relatives:

    • Types of deaths
    • Organs that can be donated after brain death, after natural death and while living
    • Where is waitlist of organ failure patients available and how to register in it
    • Who can donate organs and
    • MOHAN Foundation’s activities
    • Helpline number and MOHAN Foundation’s website
    • Kidney transplant
    • Eye donation
    • How would MOHAN Foundation get to know of someone’s death?
    • The Organ Transplantation Act 1994
    • Importance of Donor card

    Around 65 people visited the stall; 25 visitors took consent forms and 10 of them signed consent form and collected the donor cards. Questions asked by visitors included the following.

    • How does MOHAN Foundation benefit by organising such awareness campaigns?
    • After natural death what is the time duration for eye and skin donation?

    What is bone marrow?
