  • The alumni of Sree Saarathy Nursery and Primary School, Saidapet organized a get together of students and teachers on 25th December 2019 at Hotel Palmgrove in Nungambakkam, Chennai. They invited MOHAN Foundation to speak on the topic of Deceased Organ Donation as part of their social initiatives. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde was deputed to conduct the awareness talk and to set a registration table.

Around 400 alumni, family members and teachers attended the session. Mrs. Mallika Arun Kumar, one of the founders of the school recollected all the early years and how her family helped shape the many tiny tots into good citizens of Chennai. She also honoured the teachers for their work.

Dr. Hemal Kanvinde thanked the alumni for including a noble cause during their celebrations. She spoke on the following topics:

    • Organ and tissue donation – what and when and how
    • Brain death
    • Law and the role of State authority – TRANSTAN
    • The need for organ donation

Two short videos were played to highlight the value of this altruistic donation. After the awareness talk, an information and registration table was set up. Many students and young professionals came to the desk. The queries were:

    • How does MOHAN Foundation come to know of a case of brain death?
    • What should my family do to after my death?
    • How would an organ failure patient get an organ?
    • Is there another procedure for voluntary body donation?

People visiting the desk were given green ribbons and information brochures. Around 60 alumni and family members registered as organ donors. MOHAN Foundation thanks Mr. Jayaprasanth V for including organ and tissue donation awareness in their event.
