On Aug 27, 2022 an organ donation awareness was organized by P.G. Department of Research Biotechnology of Women’s Christian College. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) were also invited to participate. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer and Ms Gayathri, Intern from MMM College of Health Sciences were deputed to conduct the session.
Ms. Gayathri distributed green ribbons, information pamphlets, set a photo booth and a donor registration desk. Some students from the college volunteered to help in the distribution of reading material and man the registration desk.
The awareness session was organized in the college auditorium and was filled with an energetic audience of 175. The session commenced with prayer and a warm welcome speech and an introduction for MOHAN Foundation by Dr. Priya Iyer the Head of the Department.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde explained the concepts of organ donation, brain death, transplant law, organ transplantation, myths on organ donation, registering as an organ donor and also how to help a patient to receive an organ. Brain death was explained more effectively through a short film and a donor and recipient story were narrated. She also spoke about the activities of MOHAN Foundation. A short quiz on organ donation was conducted.
Audience gave a positive feedback stating that “The concept was explained in a simple manner and was very informative”. Around 60 students and staff registered as organ donors. The program came to conclusion with the vote of thanks by Dr. Anchana Devi, Associate Professor.
