  • On March 8, 2024, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, spoke to the Vincentian Women of St. Vincent de Paul Society (SSVP) at Rosary School Hall, Margao, Goa, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The women were from different conferences in south Goa. The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is an international voluntary organisation in the Catholic Church, founded in 1833 for the sanctification of its members by personal service of the poor.

Gabriel began the presentation by introducing himself and the MOHAN Foundation. He shared with the audience his reasons for joining the MOHAN Foundation and promoting the cause.

He described the importance of organ donation, the various organs that can be donated, the organs that can be donated by both living and brain-dead individuals, and the definition of brain stem death. All these topics were presented via PowerPoint.

He also described the various organ donation pledge options. He displayed the QR code and Form 2 of the driving licence, where once the box is ticked, the driving licence will indicate that the holder has pledged to be an organ donor. He emphasised that it is most important to inform one's family or next-of-kin about their desire to donate organs, as in India, an opt-in policy is followed where the family or next-of-kin’s consent is required to proceed with the donation.

Mr. Gabriel put up a brief animated presentation about organ donation by Shweta Gupta. He handed out 350 FAQs, and sixteen pledged to donate their organs.

Mrs. Asha Vas, the President of Goa Central Council (SSVP), expressed gratitude to Gabriel and MOHAN Foundation for raising awareness of organ donation among all conference members.
