Updated on Thursday, February 27, 2025
  • On February 18, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the staff of the Directorate of Technical Education in Porvorim, Goa. The session was attended by approximately 50 staff members.

Mr. Pereira began by introducing the MOHAN Foundation and sharing his personal experience with organ transplantation in his family, which inspired him to raise awareness about organ donation in Goa.

Using a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Pereira explained the following topics in detail:

    1. What is organ donation and why it is important

    2. The difference between coma and brain-stem death

    3. Which organs and tissues can be donated in circulatory death and brain-stem death

    4. The Transplantation of Human Organs Act (Transplant Law)

    5. How to obtain a donor card

    6. A video explaining brain death

To further reinforce his message, he recommended watching "Aye Zindagi," currently streaming on Zee5. The film is based on the true story of Vinay, a software engineer diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, and his emotional journey with grief counsellor Revathy Rajan. The character of Revathy Rajan is inspired by Ms. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of the MOHAN Foundation, who, along with her family, made the courageous decision to donate her son’s organs after his passing.

Mr. Pereira concluded the session by expressing his gratitude to Mr. Vivek Kamat, Director of Technical Education, and the staff for their support in facilitating this important awareness talk.
