  • On July 25, 2024, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an organ donation ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, was invited to give a talk to the Deanery for Women's Religious at Lar de Estudantes in Panjim, Goa. The sisters represented 16 convents and communities in Panjim.

Mr. Gabriel began by introducing himself and the MOHAN Foundation. He shared the personal story of a kidney transplant in his family, which inspired him to spread awareness about organ donation in Goa. During the talk, he used a PowerPoint presentation to discuss various aspects of organ donation. Additionally, he encouraged the sisters to arrange awareness sessions in their institutions.

He emphasized the significance of checking creatinine levels and traces of protein in urine and doing an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis, especially for individuals with hypertension or diabetes.

He also described the various organ donation pledge options, presenting the QR code and Form 2 of the driving license, and explaining that ticking the box signifies the holder's organ donation pledge. He stressed the importance of informing one's family or next-of-kin about their desire to donate organs, as in India, an opt-in policy is followed where the family or next-of-kin’s consent is required to proceed with the donation.
