On January 20, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador for the MOHAN Foundation, delivered an engaging and inspiring talk on organ donation to the students of Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School and Spring Valley Higher Secondary, Art & Commerce, in Alto–Porvorim, Goa.
Mr. Pereira began by introducing himself and sharing his personal motivation for becoming an Organ Donation Ambassador. He explained that his sister-in-law’s kidney transplant inspired him to take the MOHAN Foundation's course to raise awareness about organ donation across Goa.
He encouraged students to extend the conversation beyond the classroom, inspiring their families and friends to support this life-saving cause.
Using a detailed PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Pereira introduced the MOHAN Foundation and its initiatives in India and abroad. He covered key topics, including:
• The concepts of circulatory and brain-stem death,
• The organ and tissue donation process,
• Organ allocation procedures,
• Green corridors for organ transport, and
• Steps to obtain a donor card.
He also demonstrated how to become a donor by scanning the QR code available on the MOHAN Foundation website or opting for organ donation while applying for a driver’s license.
To make the session interactive, Mr. Pereira engaged students with questions about transplant hospitals in Goa and the types of organs that can be transplanted. Additionally, he emphasized road safety, urging students to encourage their families to wear helmets and seat belts to reduce preventable injuries.
Approximately 100 students from Classes X, XI, and XII attended the session and received valuable information on organ donation.
To further emphasize his message, Mr. Pereira recommended watching the film Aye Zindagi, currently streaming on Zee5. The movie tells the true story of Vinay, a software engineer diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, and his emotional journey with grief counsellor Revathy Rajan. It also highlights the organ donation decision made by Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of the MOHAN Foundation, and her family after the passing of her son.
Principal Mrs. Selena D’Souza expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Pereira and the MOHAN Foundation for their dedication to promoting awareness of organ donation.
